Roanoke's Channel WDBJ7 Reporting that Fred Thompson Will Make a Decision Whether to Run in Days...

Quoting from this morning's Richmond radio program with guest host George Allen, a Roanoke TV station mentions Fred Thompson's appearance and that he will announce his decision in a matter of days. At present, my best guesstimate, as I mentioned tonight at a GOP Committee meeting, is somewhere between Sept. 5th and 8th. Based on the fact that I have no contact with the Committee prior to any potential announcement, I really just don't know. If I did, I wouldn't have bet my left kidney that FDT was announcing on July 4th. Here's the blurb from Roanoke:

Thompson tells Allen decision on presidential race coming soon

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Fred Thompson said on a Richmond radio station today that he's getting very close to announcing whether he will run for president.

The former Tennessee senator and "Law and Order" actor made his comments on a show guest-hosted by another former Republican senator, Virginia's George Allen, on WRVA.

Thompson said everybody seems to be announcing a lot earlier than normal, but he's operating on a more traditional time frame. He says the law allows potential candidates to take some time to get their organization together, raise money and assess public reaction ... and that's what he's doing.

Thompson told Allen "We're not allowed to announce before we announce, but I can tell you that it won't be very many more days before I'll be making a statement on it."
